Firms battle it out over ‘Brixton’ T-shirts.
ANGRY: Robert Sturt and Noel Dempster outside Boulevard in Brixton and Sophie Elis-Bextor wearing a Peckham T-shirt.
IT MAY only be a name, but a bizarre battle is raging over the use of the word ‘Brixton’. Trendy design label Savage London -whose hip location T-shirts have been donned by Robbie Williams, Steps and Sophie Ellis-Bextor – is threatening to sue a south London shop for daring to sell their own brand of ‘Brixton’ T-shirts.
Mr Savage, who used to own a factory in Coldharbour Lane, insists he was the first to print places like Brixton and Peckham on T-shirts.
He told the South London Press: “I am a London boy myself.
“They have used my idea, put their tags in the same place and are jumping on somebody else’s bandwagon.”
And he insists this is not a David versus Goliath battle. Mr Savage pointed out he does not have his own PR firm and the only reason high-profile celebrities wear his T-shirts is because of the central London location of his shop.
He added: “I feel somebody is stepping on my toes. I will be suing.”
