… So If you’ve got something to say, then say it up front
The ultimate fashion item this summer is funky little T-shirt which celebrates this rich south London neighbourhood.
Originally put on the map by wheeler-dealer Del Boy in the cult BBC comedy ‘Only Fools and Horses’, Peckham is now set to become the consummate of cool thanks to top London designer, K Savage.
The black tops spelling out the place name in bold yellow are exclusively on sale in his West End shop, Savage, in Newburgh Street, Soho, together with T-shirts featuring Dalston and Hackney – the only two other areas deemed worthy of such designer status.
But it is the south London chic which has captured the imagination of the fashion conscious, as Savage staff say they have now been inundated with requests for Brixton to join this elite band.
Mary-Ellen Prendergast, designer’s assistant, said. “It has been absolutely fantastic.”
“These lops are just going out of the door We have only been selling them for two weeks, but already we have virtually sold out.
“And it is not tourists buying them up, but English people who live in the areas.”
She added, “They are meant to be tongue-in-cheek. Savage visited America and noticed there were T-shirts for the Bronx and areas like that.
“So he carefully chose these three places in London.”
Peckham folk can therefore be doubly proud. They are hard, as well as cool. Respect.
